GUNSTOCKS DESIGN GALLERY

Factory fit and finished stocks have been machined to fit and then finished with one of Boyds superior finishes. We machine each stock using house actions, which refers to the steel upon which we base the measurements. From this action, we machine a 0.020” to 0.040” clearance fit between wood and metal including barrel channels, unless otherwise noted. This allows for variations within firearm manufacturing ranges as well as for minor fluctuations due to wood moisture content during the manufacturing processes. For those who desire an exact fit between wood and metal, this designed clearance provides the space needed for bedding. When machining barrel channels, unless otherwise stated, we use the manufacturer's standard sporter barrel. Note: When machining Mauser actions, we typically use #1 contour barrel.

Factory fit and unfinished

Factory fit and unfinished stocks are also fit to our house actions but are sanded, not finished. Exteriors are completely shaped and broad faces are rough sanded to an 80 or 100 grit scratch pattern. Minor machining marks might be present and final finish sanding and finishing are required.

Slight fitting may be required

Factory fit stocks, whether finished or unfinished, typically can be bolted to your firearm with no fitting needed. However, please understand that there are occasionally slight variations in individual guns which will require minor fitting adjustments that a novice should be able to perform. If you need assistance, please consult a competent and qualified gunsmith*.

AR-15

The AR-15 stock set brings a new flare to the AR platform. Extending the lines of the rifle into the stock creates an aesthetically appealing firearm. The buttstock is a modern twist on the traditional A2 style. The hand guards are machined to a contour that compliments a shooters hand as well as shooting bags. A choice of a finger grooved or smooth grip allows for individual shooters to choose a design that will help them gain maximum control of the rifle.

American Plainsman

Boyds A.P. Buttstocks and Forends are designed not only to look great, but to aid both the left and right handed shooter in the field. Compare the A.P. to the utilitarian design offered on most factory 2-piece shotguns and rifles and you will see what you're missing with your standard stock. A higher parallel comb design reduces cheek slap under recoil and helps with enhanced bead acquisition at the trap range or out in the field. A lower toe design with shooter friendly pitch and the addition of the Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad gives the shooter superior shoulder to stock contact to help reduce muzzle jump and tame the recoil of the heaviest Turkey and Slug loads out there. A shorter pronounced grip with shortened flutes helps keep thumb knuckle forward of nose and aids the shooter for swift snap shooting and quick shoulder mounting. The forend is fluted and contoured for improved finger, thumb, and palm contact to forend to aid shooter for quicker action response.

Field Design

The Boyds Field Designed buttstocks and forends provide an economical means of breathing new life into proud, old guns. To uphold the nostalgia of these firearms, Boyds has recreated stocks inspired by the traditional appearance of these older firearms. The Field Design buttstocks and forearms are finished to replicate the appearance of the traditional oil rubbed finish.

Featherweight Thumbhole

The FT's design is a synthesis of design elements requested by you, the customer, for a thumbhole design. With a large rollover cheek piece for scope usage and straight comb design to minimize cheek slap when shooting, the hand conforming thumbhole allows for increased accuracy while distributing the recoil among the palm and shoulder thus minimizing muzzle jump and felt recoil. The forend is proportioned to nicely complement barrels from 21 inches to 25 inches in length and will accommodate barreled actions with standard sporter contour barrels. Larger barrels up to a tapered varmint design can be inlet in these stocks. The forend also has side vents which permit the free floating barrel to cool efficiently for those long days at the range. The FT's are available in a wide range of inlettings to accommodate most barreled actions. It must be noted that due to the variations among models and tolerances that factories may or may not routinely adhere to, some minor fitting may be required, even on our fully finished drop in parts, to achieve that perfect fit to your action.

Heritage

The Heritage follows the design of the Prairie Hunter. This design sports a Monte Carlo comb that is slightly raised to parallel the bore to aid with proper cheek alignment for scope usage. Nicely blended flutes in front of the comb conceal the thumb and prevent thumb to nose contact when the gun recoils. A graceful cheek piece provides additional facial support and is blended beautifully into the stock and grip which discourages the shooter from climbing up onto the scope and keeping the stock aligned with the shoulder for superior recoil absorption. A slender and slightly open oval pistol grip with slight palm swell is well defined with the comb to give you a firm grip, allowing quick mounting to the shoulder and aiding with proper eye position with the scope. The forend is where the Heritage deviates from the Prairie Hunter. The forend is round in cross-section to allow for the addition of a checkering pattern that wraps around the forend and aids in the grip of the shooters forward hand.

Sticklers for historical accuracy will appreciate our military replacement stocks in American Walnut; it's not only authentic down to the last detail, we apply a lustrous walnut stain and a natural oil finish to bring out the color and grain like you'll see in no other military stock.

The first youth size gunstock offered by Boyds. Available for the Savage Rascal model only.

Platinum

The Platinum follows the design of our Classic. The slender, somewhat open grip is well defined, but does not extend too far below the toe line. The comb is parallel to the bore, which aids in scope use, and because of its straight-line design, minimizes cheek slap under recoil. Additional facial support is provided by a graceful cheek piece that blends perfectly with the overall shape of the buttstock. The forend is where the Platinum deviates from the Classic. The forend is round in cross-section to allow for the addition of a checkering pattern that wraps around the forend and aids in the grip of the shooters forward hand.

Pro Varmint

The Pro Varmint was designed by Boyds to meet the requests of our customers who were looking for an affordable tactical design for their rimfire rifles. The beavertail forend allows for greater stabilization off bags, but is still trim enough for general purpose shooting. The dual purpose butt hook allows for greater control of the stock and firearm, with your non-trigger hand, and allows for a better grip on the rear bag when shooting from the bench. The Monte Carlo comb brings the shooter's cheek up for use with larger scopes and comes with an ambidextrous grip that allows either hand to assume a more natural position. The slight palm swell on either side provides for a more comfortable grip.

The Boyds' RH is a synthesis of design elements requested by you, the customer, which have been incorporated by our highly skilled design team, into this non-thumbhole, ambidextrous, all-purpose design. The RH features a Monte Carlo comb that is slightly raised to parallel the bore. This aids with proper cheek alignment for scope usage and also has nicely blended flutes in front of the comb to conceal the thumb. A slender, slightly closed grip with slight palm swell on both the right and left sides enables any shooter a firm but relaxed grip. A beavertail designed forend is oval in shape, allowing superior palm-to-forend weld to improve off-hand shooting, yet wide enough to ride the bags for a session at the range. The forend is proportioned to compliment barrels 18-22 inches in length and can be opened up by the customer to accept customer barrels up to a diameter of 1 inch if desired.

SS Evolution

This new lightweight drop-in from Boyds is the first truly ambidextrous thumbhole stock and one that is sure to turn heads. For all its futuristic looks, however, the SS Evolution® is a purely functional stock. The grip angle allows the hand to assume the most natural position, and the palm swell on either side provides the most comfortable grip possible. Also, there is no forend contact with the barrel, so this stock will accept all barrel contours whether lightweight, sporter, or varmint weight.
